We are currently in Moffett, OK where a historic flood damaged every home and building from major rains that happened upriver this summer.  We're rebuilding 3 homes and also helping others as we can, trusting The LORD to help us keep our commitments.  Unfortunately we've struggled to get volunteers, even locals to help us, which is truly sad.  We're set up to handle volunteers so if you're interested in learning more about joining us, click here.  There is also a volunteer availability calendar on that page. If you're interested in financially supporting Calvary Relief, click here.

To read our 2019 Review, please click here. To stay up to date with what we're doing, please see our Facebook account and/or our newsletters, links are above.  Please pray that wherever we are and whatever we do, we'd be diligent as we share the love of Jesus with those around us in a tangible way.  Please remember to keep us in your prayers and especially that we'd grow in our relationship with The LORD and draw others to Him in all we say and do!  Curt & Mary Jo

Living Worthy Lives

For this reason, since the day we heard about it, we have not stopped praying for you, asking [specifically] that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [with insight into His purposes], and in understanding [of spiritual things], [10] so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts]; [11] [we pray that you may be] strengthened and invigorated with all power, according to His glorious might, to attain every kind of endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints (God’s people) in the Light.- Colossians 1:9-12 AMP

Paul began his letter to the Colossians thanking The LORD for them because they heard The Word, received Christ, made Him LORD of their lives, and then got busy serving.  This had become extremely evident because their lives were radically changed which was evidenced by the fruit of their lives and in the lives of those around them.  He noted that they were constantly bearing fruit and it was increasing, they weren’t retiring or resting on their laurels!

Paul then begins his prayer for them in verse 9.  He was continually praying for the Colossians and the rest of the believers whose lives he had influenced for Christ.  He prayed that they would be filled with the knowledge of God's will.  This knowledge came from, and still comes from, Spiritual wisdom and understanding.  Love the AMP and here, quoted above, it explains what God’s will is, insight into God’s purposes.  The reason why we’re here on this earth, most importantly, is to go into all the world, making disciples by teaching everyone ALL that Jesus has taught us!  (Matthew 28:18-20)

Why is having Spiritual wisdom and understanding so important?  So that we will live our lives on this earth in a way that is worthy of The LORD.  This is the opposite of living for ourselves or anyone or anything on this earth!  We need to live our lives in such a way that they show our gratitude for all that The LORD has given us, since it ALL comes from Him.  (Colossians 1:16, James 1:17)  Our lives should especially show how grateful we are for God sending Jesus to die on the cross to suffer the death and separation from God (eternity in hell) that we ALL deserve and instead we’ll receive heaven because of His death and resurrection and this has absolutely nothing to do with anything that we’ve done or ever will do!

Again, from the AMP, to live our lives worthy of The LORD means that we’re to display admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity.  Unfortunately, these are all traits that are missing in so much of the church and so-called Christians today as we’re too busy loving ourselves and amassing things on this earth.  We’re living our lives upside down and as close to the edge as we “feel” safe to reside!  This is NOT the trait of a repentant person, these are traits that are prevalent in the world, which is how we should expect the world to be, not the Church and those who call themselves Christians!  Instead of coming out from among the world and our lives being separate, we’ve yoked ourselves up with the world in its thoughts and ways, dismissing clear Biblical Principles that get in the way of how we believe our life should be.  (2 Corinthians 6:14, 17)

Paul tells us here that we’re to please The LORD in ALL things, so that’s in ALL our life, ALL of our days, etc, while we’re on this earth!  If we’re doing this, then like the Colossians, our lives will continually bear fruit for The LORD, not for ourselves!  Everyone around us will be fully aware of who our King is, not because of what we say necessarily, but because of how we live our lives no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in!  Our lives will display admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity in ALL we do.

As we continue to walk worthy, pleasing The LORD in all we say and do, then not only will the fruit of how we live our lives be evident to everyone around us, but we will desire to have a greater knowledge of God and His Word.  The fruit of God’s Spirit living in and through us will display love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  (Galatians 5:22-23, see also Galatians 4:8-9).  Notice the singular word fruit, not fruits as if we can pick and choose which ones we want our lives to express dependent on our circumstances rather than God’s commands, our lives are to bear ALL the fruit of The Holy Spirit as listed in Galatians, ALL the time!

Living our lives worthy of The LORD will give us a fervent love for the Biblical Principles found in God’s Word and a desire to obey them as Jesus said, “If you love Me you will keep My commandments!”  (John 14:15)  This fervent love will drive us into God’s Word and will give us a deeper faith and trust in Him, which in turn will cause us to want to know Him more, which in turn will cause our lives to continue to radically change and we’ll be serving The LORD more as will be evident by us bearing even more fruit, which will give us a deeper faith and trust in Him, and round and round it goes until the day we go home to spend eternity with The LORD God Almighty, the Maker of Heaven and Earth!  (Psalm 115:15)

Paul finishes his prayer for them (us) by asking that they are strengthened and invigorated with ALL power that comes from The LORD’s might which lives inside of us, The Holy Spirit.  (John 14:16-20)  This is where we’re to live and the only way for us to endure as a good soldier of Jesus Christ as we patiently not only wait for His glorious appearance and for the fruit of our labors on this earth to come to fruition.  Through all of this we’ll have God’s peace and joy no matter what the world and satan throw at us!  (2 Timothy 2:1-13, Philippians 4:7-9)  We need to remember that we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us!  (Philippians 4:13)

And finally, Paul thanks The LORD because it is ALL Him who gives us EVERYTHING that we need to not only get to heaven, but to live our lives full out for Him while we’re breathing on this earth!  (James 1:16-18, Philippians 4:13, 2 Peter 1:1-12)

Get armored up and stand firm in The LORD!  (Ephesians 6:10-18, 2 Timothy 2:4)  It’s getting harder and harder to live for The LORD and it WON’T be getting easier this side of heaven.  (John 16:33, James 4:1-10)  Don’t be part of those who fall away and are cast into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  But rather be part of those who hear these words from Jesus, “Well done My good and faithful servant, you’ve been faithful over little, I’ll make you ruler over much; enter into the joy of your Master!”   (Hebrews 6:1-8, Matthew 25:14-30)

We gain Spiritual wisdom and understanding through God's Word and the Holy Spirit.  We need to quit deceiving ourselves that we’re OK with where we are in our relationship with The LORD.  (James 1:22-25)  It’s past time for us to be mature in the knowledge of Christ and actually live and follow His commands.  (1 Corinthians 3:1-3, Hebrews 5:11-14)

We need to keep in mind that The Holy Spirit will NEVER tell the Holy Spirit to do anything different, EVER.  Paul also said in Galatians 1:8 that if he or an angel came and preached a different Gospel then what he was teaching them, let them be cursed!  Everything we do MUST completely line up with EVERYTHING in God's Word and we learn how to apply it to our lives through the empowering of The Holy Spirit!

God has done the qualifying for us already at the cross.  He has given us a new life in Him and has empowered us to live this new life by The Holy Spirit who lives inside of every believer and follower of Christ’s.  (Romans 6:1-7, Ephesians 3:14-19, John 14:16-17, 26)  All we need to do is to walk/live in the newness of life, putting off our old sinful nature and putting on Christ as we daily allow The Holy Spirit to fill us with Him and remove us from our lives!  (2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:17-24)

I pray that for you today, please continually pray that for us!

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions, prayer requests, etc.  We'd love to pray with and for you and to the best of our ability answer any questions you may have soley using God's Word!

Love y’all and LORD Bless,

Curt & Mary Jo
