I can't imagine walking this world with Jesus, seeing all He was doing, hearing all He was teaching, and then turning my back on Him and walking away.
Often, I think, that would never be me, if I was being discipled by Jesus I'd never fall away or act like that, etc.
But the reality is that we really don't know what we'd do because we've never been in that situation, and even if we had, how do we know if we'd react/respond then, the way we think we would now?
Today, as believers, followers, disciples of Christ, we have the Holy Spirit living in us, and He is equal to Christ as far as being God and He disciples us along with The Inspired Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) We can see The LORD at work in many ways all around us. We can easily get into God's Word and He will speak to us through it, we can go to church, have others disciple us with The Word, etc. (Psalm 119) We really don't have any excuse for not knowing, except that we choose not to and instead choose to follow this world and ourselves instead of denying ourselves, our flesh and it’s desires and following Christ! (Luke 9:23) Isn’t that exactly what many of Jesus’ disciples did in John 6?
I'm sure most of us, including myself, would like to think we'll never turn away and that we can do it. But the reality is we can't, but He can! It's so easy to get discouraged when we take our eyes off Jesus and instead focus on all the stuff that life throws at us. Often, we can think it'd be easier to just give up and let the affairs of this world choke us out. (Mark 4:19) We must press on and into Christ and this is a daily, moment by moment struggle and choice. (Philippians 3:12-15) God wants us to finish well. (Philippians 1:6) We should live our lives to hear, "Well done My good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:14-30) We know we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us and that there is no temptation that we have to give into and sin because He is faithful! (Philippians 4:13, 1 Corinthians 10:13)
It's all about Jesus, nothing about us. Jesus told us that if we abide in His teachings , which means to continually live and obey them, then we are truly his disciples and then we’ll know The Truth and The Truth will set us free from having to sin and the penalty of sin when we do fall. (John 8:31-32) We just need to choose to allow Him to fill us every day with Him and empty ourselves of us. He has given us all we need to live a life of Godliness, but we must choose to follow Him. (2 Peter 1:3) He wants to give us the faith we need which comes by hearing and hearing by The Word of God, so we must be in The Word! (Romans 10:17, Psalm 119) Nothing will happen unless we allow it, so of course therein lies the problem, us and our foolish desires and the daily choices we make to NOT follow Christ!
We need to be like Joshua and say and then live, "As for me and my house, we will serve The LORD!!" Choose this day who you will serve!! (Joshua 24:15) And also like the disciples who when asked by Jesus if they were going to leave them too, responded, where else will we go, You have the words of eternal life! (John 6:66-69)
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions, prayer requests, etc. We'd love to pray with and for you and to the best of our ability answer any questions you may have soley using God's Word!
