And My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.— 2 Chronicles 7:14 AMP
This is one of those verses that I share often when we’re doing devos. If you read through the Bible, you'll quickly realize that it is written mostly to those who claim to be Christians, Believers, true followers of Christ. It's a guide from The LORD to show us how to live our lives in a way that pleases Him. (2 Peter 1:3 and for a devo I did on this subject click here.)
As Christians we waste too much time pointing our fingers at those who don't believe in Jesus Christ as their LORD and Savior. Just like you and me before Christ, they are of this world, and they act of this world. Why would we expect them to act any differently? Sinners, sin.
Instead, God commands us in His Word and gives us guidance here in this verse that we as Christians are to humble ourselves, pray, and turn from our wicked ways, repent, and then The LORD will heal our land.
I know that there are many opinions concerning the term, "heal our land." I believe that since Christ died for us, the land is the fertile soil of the hearts of those who believe in The LORD Jesus Christ. That is where God, as The Holy Spirit, lives today. That is what He's healing today, not our nation, we aren't Israel. But whether you think God's talking about us Christians or the country we live in, it still begins individually with those of us who are true followers of Christ.
We often say we're praying for a revival in America. But the true definition of the word revival is to revive something. In other words, there must be something that once was and needs to be made useful, good, and/or new again.
If we're praying for a revival in America, and we should, then we need to be praying that The LORD would reveal the sin in our own lives and change us as believers from the inside out so that we would have an impact on the world around us and they too would come to know Christ in a real way.
That's something worth spending our time, resources, money, etc. on while we still have time on this earth. This by the way, is the sole purpose for us while we are still alive on this earth! We are not here to amass fortunes and spend time on us. We are here solely because God allows us to be here and as we grow and become more like Christ, we will be a witness for Him and hopefully the lost world around us will be drawn to Him!
I was talking with some friends the other day who were blaming our government for all our troubles. I told them that the problem isn’t the government, the non-Christians, etc., the problem is with those who call themselves Christians and live exactly like the world. When we look exactly like them whether it’s what we’re willing to do to get ahead in this world as we chase after the American dream, live in fear because of world events, gossip, backbite, etc., what would compel the world to become like us? I was then asked if I thought it would make a difference if Christians actually lived lives as we’re commanded in God’s Word. My reply, that’s not a question that a Christian should be asking. We should be asking how we can be more like Christ so that the world would see Jesus in all that we do. It’s then up to them. We’re responsible to be obedient, no matter what the cost. Results are NOT in our control. But could you imagine what this world would look like if we Christians actually acted like we’re told to act in God’s Word?
One can’t help but wonder that since God knew everything that would happen in the world, and that we Christians would become more and more like the world instead of like Christ, that this would lead to the world becoming more and more evil and to one day end up being destroyed? Isn’t that what happened over and over again in the Old Testament? Isn’t that history repeating itself?
While I want everyone I know to join me in being a servant of the one and only King, Jesus, I realize that it’s their choice. What I don’t want to be responsible for is not warning them. I don’t want to watch them be judged and sent to hell while they look at me and say, why didn’t you warn me or you were exactly like me, why are you not going to hell too, etc.
Honestly, I don’t know exactly how the final judgement will look for those who didn’t put their faith and trust in Jesus and making Him The LORD of their lives on this earth. But I don’t want to be the reason anyone doesn’t know who Jesus is. Like the old saying goes, “What if you are the only Bible or Jesus, anyone ever sees?”
This is serious for all of us! Let's all get on our knees today and get busy repenting and then be about The LORD's business! Time is short, not just for you, but for all of those around you! Don’t you love them enough to live like Jesus in front of them and then talk to them about Him?

I encourage you to click, read, study and even memorize these passages for yourself and NOT to just not just take my word for it. (Psalm 119)
